On Saturday, June 24, plan to attend Ventura Raceway, and get ready for a flashback to the grand spectacle of dirt track motorcycle racing. The 8th Annual Outlaw Vintage Short Track Race relives the glory days of Ascot Speedway. Over 10 different race classes pit no-brakes, hand shifting sidevalve Indians vs. Harleys, Triumph vs. BSA, two +50 races, and a special IROC class for the Indian Arrow, where Starklite Cycle fields identical motorcycles, and it is up to the individual to excell. All vintage classes are by size and year, and must be 1974 or older with a four stroke engine design. The vintage racing gives collectors, enthusiasts and retired racers the chance to bring out their vintage machines and compete in an organized one-fifth mile short track race. As an added attraction, there will be a Pro 600cc class. There will be trophies for all vintage classes and a $2000 purse for the pros. Points will be awarded toward standings in Eddie Mulder’s West Coast Vintage Flat Track Series. Practice starts at 3 p.m. with racing at 5 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free.
Returning again since 1987, plan to attend the West Coast’s largest display of vintage & contempory iron on Sunday, June 25. For enthusiasts wanting to view some of the most spectacular collectible motorcycles up close, the 13th Annual Ventura Antique & Classic Motorcycle Show & Exchange will be the place to be. The Sunday show on the grass and under the palm trees provides an opportunity to view up to 200 antique, classic and custom motorcycles and speak with many of the owners. There will be classes for American, British, European and Japanese. The swap meet includes used motorcycles, new and used parts and accessories, clothing, jewelry, and collectibles. Also, back by popular demand there will be a custom motorcycle display. Gates open at 8 a.m. to the public. Admission is $5 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free.
