As everybody
who is on it knows, the VI mailing
list is absolutely fabulous. You get almost instant replies to your
tech questions, you get direct access to most of the leading figures in
the industry and you get the lates Indian news in a way that no other medium
can compete with. Folks write the list as soon as they get back from events
- often with a link to photos they have just uploaded to their own site.
I have always wanted more list stuff in the magazine, but so far it has mostly been indirect - i.e. something is mentioned on the list, I contact the writer and we do an article about whatever it is. An exception to this was the digests about which tools to pack for road trips and about practical experiences with the new Kiwi engine in issue 10. Both of these articles sort of supported the big Century Ride Home feature in that issue, of course. I hope we can find a way to make this sort of thing a regular part of the magazine, and it would be cool if we could find someone to handle it... In any case, it struck me recently that
we could do something with the photo links fairly easily. Both to share
the photos with a bigger group, and to give us sort of an "index" to the
photo links. It's easier to go back to this magazine page than to dig through
the last year's mail to find a link to some photos you half-remember.
